Strategic Need of the US India Discovery Science Collaboration

  • Fermilab a US Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory inspires to become world leader in high intensity proton accelerator and particle physics.
    • US Department of Energy suggested that since the laboratory collaborates with many countries, laboratory management and physicists should work with its international collaborators to raise significant funds for future high intensity proton accelerator and neutrino physics.
      • Shekhar Mishra was one of the senior managements leading the high intensity proton accelerator program at Fermilab (2003-2018).
  • Indian Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) have been working on R&D for high intensity proton accelerator for the utilization of Thorium in the 3rd stage of the nuclear program.
    • The high-intensity proton accelerator is the only way India can achieve the demand of its electricity needs without depending on international source for petroleum and Uranium.

Dr. Shekhar Mishra provided the founding vision, management, scientific, technical leadership and negotiated for over a decade (2003-2015) for the governments of the United States and India and established the Discovery Science Collaboration. Collaboration today is developing technologies and infrastructures within US Export Control regulations for Indian and US domestic programs.
